September 24, 2007 - News 12 Anchor Bill Gonillo, 44, was found dead in his Woodbridge home on Sunday. Just days removed from his last News 12 sports report, which he always brightened with his boundless energy and never-ending charisma, Bill will be greatly missed by thousands of sports fans that he lit up as the beacon of Connecticut sports.
Bill was a tremendous friend of the Brakettes. His coverage over the past decade was paramount in connecting the team with the public, putting Brakettes softball in living rooms across South-Western Connecticut. Bill would bring his favorite accessory, his video camera, to every corner of Fairfield and New Haven counties, including DeLuca Field, reporting on all the sports news that the public wanted to see. He would be seen interviewing a player on the sidelines, cracking jokes in the press box, and popping through the side door of the concession stand, seemingly just minutes before delivering a flawless and professional rundown of Connecticut sports on his beloved News 12. Bill would stay at the ballpark, talking with coaches and players, sports writers and soccer moms, admitting that he probably should have left long before, yet was still able to make it back in time to work his craft. After Bill would leave, there was always admiration and disbelief among those in attendance, wondering how he did it.
We all lost a great friend this weekend, and this time, Bill left us way too early. Sadly, we are again left in admiration and disbelief. We will miss you dearly Bill...
