BRAKETTES SCHEDULE SUMMER SOFTBALL CLINICS IN STRATFORD

May 19, 2008 - Registrations are under way for the annual Stratford Brakettes summer softball clinics, which are set for Frank DeLuca Hall of Fame Field and the Short Beach Recreation complex. The clinics are under the tutelage of veteran Stratford Brakettes Manager John Stratton and staffed by members of the 2008 Brakettes team. They run from June 23-July 11.

There are six different sessions with the pitching and catching sessions scheduled for DeLuca Field. The Hitting/Offense (July 7-8) and the Fielding/Defense (July 10-11) sessions will be staged at Short Beach Recreation Complex. All sessions are from 9:30 a.m. to 12 noon.

While the first beginning pitching sessions is set for (Monday/Tuesday) June 23-24, an identical beginning pitching sessions is scheduled (Thursday/Friday) June 26-27. In Beginning Pitching, campers focus on developing a motion and then mastering the basic mechanics of pitching.

Advanced Pitching on June 30/July 1 (Monday/Tuesday) covers the different grips and spins used in throwing the riseball, drop pitch, curve ball and change of pace, as well as strategy and situations. The catching session on July 3 (Thursday) is a one-day event and will feature assistant Coach Jay Stratton, a former minor league catcher, as well as the team’s catching corps.

Manager John Stratton will utilize the pitching talents of his current staff, featuring Italian National Team ace Leslie (Baird) Malerich, UMass All-America Brandice Balschmiter and teammate Bailey Sanders, and former professional and Team USA pitcher Danielle Henderson.

The Hitting/Offense on July 7-8 (Monday/Tuesday) and the Fielding/Defense on July 10-11 (Thursday/Friday) will feature the entire Brakettes roster, including second baseman Mandie Fishback, outfielder Katie Cochran of top-ranked Arizona State, third baseman Whitney Mollica of UMass, and outfielders Sari-Jane Jenkins of Oregon, and Denise Denis.

All campers receive free tickets to Brakettes home games. Discounts are available for those who sign up for multiple sessions.
