Henderson Notches 100th Career Win as Brakettes Shake Tremors

August 8, 2008 - The Brakettes defeated the TC Tremors 9-1 Friday at the ASA Nationals in Amherst, NY, as Danielle Henderson won her 100th game as a Brakette. The victory was Stratford's second in round-robin pool play, and places the Brakettes in a 4:30 Friday afternoon matchup against the Western NY Xtreme.

Henderson struck out twelve batters and allowed four hits, while walking one. She became the seventh Brakette in team history to reach the 100-win milestone, and now sports a 100-10 record in six seasons with the club.

Kaitlin Cochran was hit by a pitch to start the home first, and stole second base. Denise Denis smashed a triple to plate Cochran, and then scored on a wild pitch, pushing the lead to 2-0.

The Brakettes were not finished yet, as Whitney Mollica reached base on a one-out walk. Jenna Lopez singled and moved Mollica to second, bringing Laura Trout to the plate. Trout grounded to the left side, and the Tremors were able to get the force at third. A wild pitch moved Lopez to third and Trout to second, giving the Brakettes two runners in scoring position. Ashley Waters singled to bring both runners home, and the Brakettes enjoyed a 4-0 lead.

Jessica Philips singled in the top of the second for the Tremors, and moved to second on a wild pitch. Dani Koltz moved Philips to third with a groundout to second, and Philips scored on a passed ball, giving the Tremors their only run.

The Brakettes broke open the contest in the third inning, when they put another four runs on the board. Trout singled with one out, and moved to second on a passed ball. Waters singled again to score Trout for a 5-1 lead. Jill Cimminello smacked a hit up the middle, giving the Brakettes two runners with two outs. Cochran walked to load the bases, giving Denis another RBI opportunity. Denis delivered her second triple of the game, clearing the bases for an 8-1 advantage.

After Henderson worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the sixth, the Brakettes needed one more score to end the game by way of the run-rule.

Cochran walked and stole second base in the bottom of the sixth, bringing pinch-hitter Sarah Gates up to bat. Gates put down a sacrifice bunt to move Cochran to third, and Fishback followed with a walk. Bailey Sanders came up to hit for Mollica, and drove a pitch to deep right center to score Cochran, ending the game with a 9-1 score.

The Brakettes' 4:30 contest against the Western NY Xtreme is Stratford's first game in double-elimination bracket play. All Brakettes' games at the ASA Nationals will be broadcast right here at www.brakettes.com
