Brakettes Have Eight Players Named All-Americans at ASA Nationals

August 12, 2008 - The Brakettes congratulate the So Cal Hurricanes, the 2008 ASA Women's Major Fastpitch Champions, and this year's Runners-Up, the Western NY Xtreme. The Brakettes placed eight players on the All-American teams following the competition.

Leading the way with post-season accolades was Jess Serio, who was named First-Team All-American. She was also the tournament's Home Run Queen, smashing two long balls in bracket play, and was the Batting Queen with a .667 average.

Danielle Henderson was named the recipient of the Bertha Tickey Award, named after the Brakettes' Hall of Famer, given to the tournament's most valuable pitcher. Henderson was also named to the First Team All-American squad.

Kaitlin Cochran, who had three triples in double-elimination play, was also named to the First Team. A consensus NCAA All-American and member of the College World Series champion Arizona State Sun Devils, Cochran also had three triples in the Brakettes' first pool play contest. It was the first time in the Brakettes' 62-year history that a team member accomplished this feat in one game.

Whitney Mollica, who batted .500 during bracket play, was also named to the First Team. She ended the season as the Brakettes' Home Run leader with nine long balls, and was the team's Batting Queen as well.

Denise Denis batted .438 in bracket play, and was named to the Second Team All-American squad. Denis led the Brakettes in RBI's for the 2008 season, with 45 runs produced.

Mandie Fishback, who smashed two homers at the tourney, while playing an impressive shortstop, was also named Second Team All-American.

Brandice Balschmiter and Jess Mouse also were named Second Team All-Americans.
