Stratford Brakettes Announce 2009 Plans

April 18, 2009 - The Stratford Brakettes have announced their 2009 schedule, including 52 home games at DeLuca Hall of Fame Field in Stratford, CT, and a significant change to their end of the year plans. The season opener will be on Friday night, June 5th at 7:00 against the CT Panthers. The Brakettes will also host the New Jersey Elite at 7:00 pm on Saturday, June 6th and Sunday, June 7th at 12 noon.

Following two consecutive years in which the ASA Women’s Major Nationals have been cut short due to inclement weather, the Brakettes have decided to host a tournament in Stratford rather than travel to Auburn, Alabama for the ASA nationals. The scheduling change reflects a significant departure from tradition, as the Brakettes have played in every ASA Major Championship since 1948.

The tournament has already received commitments from the St. Louis (MO) Saints, Topton (PA) VIP’s, Allentown (PA) Spirit, Western NY Xtreme, NY Freedom, and other top teams from the Northeast. It will begin Thursday, August 6th, with the championship being played on Sunday, August 9th.

The Brakettes will welcome back 2007 NCAA First Team All-American Killian Roessner, who appeared in several games last year. The 2006 NPF home run champ, Jess Merchant, will also make her return to Stratford, after playing the last two seasons for the New England Riptide. The Brakettes will feature several other familiar names, as veterans Denise Denis and Jill Cimminello return for a fifth year. Mandie Fishback will patrol the infield for a third season, and will be joined by other returnees Jenna Lopez, Jess Mouse, Amber Radomski, Bailey Sanders, Jess Serio, and Ashley Waters. Numerous other collegiate stars will make their debuts in 2009.

The Brakettes will go on two road trips this summer, starting with the annual trip in early June to Lyons Field, PA, for doubleheaders against the Topton VIP’s and Allentown Spirit. The second excursion will include individual games at the NPF Philadelphia Force on July 2nd and 3rd, followed by the Topton Fourth of July tournament on the 4th and 5th at Lyons Field.

The defending ASA 18-Under Gold National Champions will also make a trip to Stratford this summer, as the Brakettes play host to the Gold Coast (Florida) Hurricanes on June 25th at DeLuca Field. Brakette pitcher Rachele Fico was a member of the Hurricanes in 2008, picking up the win in the 18-Under Gold National Championship game in Oklahoma City. Fico will continue to pitch for the Brakettes in 2009, and will also play with the Hurricanes on selected dates.
