Brakettes Blanked By Philadelphia Force

July 3, 2009 - The Philadelphia Force again got the best of the Brakettes Friday night in Allentown, PA, shutting out Stratford 8-0 at ECTB Stadium in BiCentennial Park.

Jackie Lawrence got her first start for the Brakettes, going three innings before being relieved by Bailey Sanders, who pitched the last three frames.

The Force scored their first run on a lead-off, solo shot by Clare Burnum in the bottom of the first.

Philadelphia tacked on three more runs in the home second, again by way of the long ball. Stacy Birk led off with a walk, and was moved to second on a single by Lilly Hammond. Tory Yamaguchi sent a deep homer over the left field fence to give the Force a 4-0 advantage.

The Force scored four more runs in the bottom of the fifth, as Dee Dee Justice, Danielle Kinley, Birk and Hammond all crossed home plate. Four Philly hits and two walks were enough to put the game out of reach.

The Brakettes dropped to 16-2 with the decision. They will play again Saturday at 12 noon in the Topton Fourth of July Tournament in Lyons, PA, against the winner of a game between the NJ Elite and the Lehigh Valley Gators. All tourney games will be broadcast right here at brakettes.com.
