Tremors Shake Brakettes in First Game, Earn Split With Stratford

July 25, 2009 - The TC Tremors surprised the Brakettes with a 3-1 decision in the first game of a doubleheader Saturday night at DeLuca Field, as Stratford could not rally from a three-run deficit. Stratford won the second game in run-rule fashion, picking up an 8-0 victory in six innings.

Stacy Kuwick went four innings in the early contest to earn the victory, with Brooke Darling throwing the last three frames for the save. They scattered nine Brakettes hits, not allowing a run until the seventh.

Mary Beth Dombrowski reached on a lead-off single in the third inning, and advanced to second on a bunt single by Kuwick. Rosie Roessel also reached on a bunt single, loading the bases with one out. Lucia Meola grounded out to shortstop, bringing the Tremors’ first run home. Michelle Prong then ripped a single to score Kuwick and Roessel, and the Tremors held a 3-0 lead.

That margin would stay the same until the seventh inning, when the Brakettes tried to come back. Rachele Fico reached on a one-out single up the middle, and moved up on a single by Bailey Sanders. Following a bunt single by Lindsey Kay Bright, Carly Normandin sent Fico home to score on a base hit, closing the lead to 3-1. Ashley Waters grounded into a force, and Denise Denis grounded out to first to end the rally.

Jen Russell (10-2) took the loss for Stratford, striking out three in defeat. She surrendered six hits for the game.

In the second game, Stratford took advantage of early errors, and scored an unearned run in the first. Denis reached on a fielder’s choice, and then stole second base. She went home with the first run on an error by the second baseman.

The Brakettes picked up another run in the third, as Normandin reached on a two-base error. Mandie Fishback grounded to second with runners at first and second, and the force was made at second. The throw to first sailed wide, and Normandin crossed home plate with the second Stratford run.

The Brakettes scored four runs in the bottom of the fourth to break the game open. Amber Radomski reached on an error, and was moved to second on a sac bunt by Sanders. Cimminello singled Radomski home to make it 3-0. Ciminello would later score, as would Normandin and Waters, as the Brakettes sent ten batters to the plate in the frame. Fishback had a two-run single to pace the rally.

Lindsey Kay Bright singled in the fifth, and took second base on an errant throw. Normandin knocked her home with a single, pushing the lead to 7-0.

Stacey Lajoie reached on an error in the sixth, and came home on a line drive single by Sanders to right center. The tally ended the game at 8-0 by virtue of the run-rule.

Kasey Barrett cruised to a one-hit win, allowing just a bunt single to Roessel to lead off the fourth. Barrett struck out 13, and improved to 4-0 on the season.

Darling started the nightcap for the Tremors, and was relieved by Amy Bright in the fourth inning.

The Brakettes and Tremors will meet twice more at 12 noon Sunday at DeLuca HOF Field in Stratford. Both games will be broadcast right here at brakettes.com.
