Wet Fields Delay Brakettes' Pursuit of All-Time Record

June 24, 2011 - Mother Nature continues to get in the way of the Stratford Brakettes' summer plans. Friday night's games against the Puerto Rico Junior National Team have been rescheduled for Sunday afternoon at 1:00. The Brakettes will now have to wait until Saturday night to try to eclipse the club's all-time winning streak. The team has won 70 games in a row, one shy of the franchise mark set over the '71 and '72 seasons.

Thursday night's doubleheader with the Stratford Breakers was cancelled because of rain and wet grounds. The outfield remained flooded on Friday and more rain was expected during the day. Durham School Service Night has been postponed until June 30 when the Brakettes host the Mirage Gold at 7 p.m.

The Brakettes will host the Stratford Seahawks in a doubleheader Saturday night at 7:00. Saturday will be Cheshire Youth Softball Night at DeLuca Field, as players and coaches from the Cheshire Youth Softball program will enjoy a night of softball and special festivities.

Manager John Stratton's club brings a 14-0 record into the action and hasn't lost since June 4, 2010, Opening Night of last year. Rachele Fico (5-0) and Brandice Balschmiter (5-0) are the scheduled pitchers Saturday night.

Both doubleheaders will be video webcast at brakettes.com.
