Brakettes Near Milestones in Twin Victories over NY Swag 8-0, 11-0

July 29 - by Ilan Woll - With the Brakettes entering Thursday with 3797 wins and 4192 total games, and Denise Denis having 696 hits (third all time as a Brakette), the games against the NY Swag had added meaning. In their second to last weekend of the season, Stratford was victorious with a new face and missing some key players.

For the first game, Megan Good took the circle facing Brewster High School's Nicole Rosner. Good dominated the early part of the game, retiring the first twelve hitters, and striking out seven in a row (of 13 for the game), allowing only two hits and walking one over six innings.

The Brakettes scored in the first inning as Val Suto walked and advanced on a single by Britt Lampert. Sarah Bencivenga, batting cleanup, singled up the middle to score Suto for the edge.

In the third, Suto and Lampert singled. Denise Denis then doubled to deep center for an RBI. Bencivnga hit a sac fly for the other run.

In the fifth, the Brakettes put the game out of reach as Suto and Lampert again led off with singles. Denise Denis then turned on a pitch and drove it over the centerfield fence. Bencivenga then doubled down the leftfield line and Patti Sciglimpaglia singled to right moving her to third. A sac fly from Megan Good brought up the seventh run for the home team. An RBI single from Lampert in the sixth was the final run for the Brakettes 8-0 win.

Britt Lampert and Denise Denis provided the games firepower. Britt had four singles, while Denise Denis had a double along with the homer for four RBIs, Val Suto and Danni Kemp also had two hits, with Suto scoring four runs.

For game two, Patti Sciglimpaglia made a return to the pitcher role against Jackie Hoffman of Horace Greeley High School in Chappaqua, NY.

Following a quick inning from Sciglimpaglia in the first, Val Suto singled to left and scored due to a bases loaded walk to Hannah Cooper. In the second, Westhill High School standout Gabby Laccona, in her first double header in Brakettes colors, was hit by a pitch and scored as Val Suto blooped a double to center for the two run lead.

In the third, things fell apart for the Swag in a 15 batter inning. Denise Denis and Hannah Cooper singled. Megan Good then got her first hit as a Brakette to score Denis. Patti Sciglimpaglia also drove in a run. Amber Radomski then grounded to the pitcher, but after trying to check the runners, there was no play at first for a fielder's choice. With the bases loaded, Danni Kemp walked, and Gabby Laccona singled. Suto then walked and Britt Lampert doubled in two. subsequent walks to Denis and Good and a Cooper singled finished the nine run inning to complete the scoring in the 11-0 victory.

Patti Sciglimpaglia had one of her best outtings with the Brakettes, allowing just two hits in five innings and striking out seven. Val Suto, Hannah Cooper, and Gabby Laccona each had two hits in the win.

With the wins, the Brakettes now have 3799 lifetime victories in 4194 total games. Denise Denis is now one hit short of 700 for Stratford.

The Brakettes return Friday with a double header against the NY Swag. Saturday and Sunday they will be in Lyons, PA and then Tuesday have a special three team event with the CT Seahawks and St. Louis Saints as a prelude to next weekend's Women's Major Softball Tournament to finish the season.
