Amber Radomski Honored as Brakettes Sweep Stripes and Strikes 9-1 and 8-0

July 1 - by Ilan Woll - With 477 games played, a .303 career batting average, and recognition as the most adaptable Brakette ever, having played all nine positions over her career, not to mention three years as a player coach, and now coach, Amber Radomski Day was due. As the Brakettes Coach, Branford Police officer, and expectant mother took the field honored with plaques, flowers, and a cake, the Brakettes took the field against the Stripes and Strikes of Pennsylvania. Raeanne Geffert took the hill against Kasidy Slusser.

Much like Friday's first game, the Stripes and Strikes struck early as Marissa Trivelpiece demolished a riseball to left centerfield for the first run of the game.

After the Brakettes threatened, but did not score in the first, Alex Heinen singled to center. Sam Rodriguez and Val Suto then walked. Theresa Kane then doubled to clear the bases for the early 3-1 lead.

Kasidy Slusser again worked her way out of a jam in the third, but Stratford opened things up in the fourth. Britt Lampert reached on an error, but then six straight singles put the game out of reach as the Brakettes scored five.

For the fifth inning, Lampert doubled to left and Suto singled. Kane was then intentionally walked, and a ball four to Denise Denis ended the game 9-1.

Raeanne Geffert (3-0) allowed only three hits, striking out four without a walk, She retired ten batters in a row at one point. Theresa Kane continued her torrid batting with three hits. Val Suto, Denise Denis, Lauren Pitney, and Alex Heinen each added two. Lauren Pitney also turned in a defensive gem, ranging close to first base to deny a single to Kayla Reich.

Game 2 saw Kayla Reich facing off against Brandice Balschmiter. An early walk in the first was eliminated by a double play with Lauren Pitney shoveling a ground ball to Briana Marcelino for a quick pivot over to first baseman Heather Holly

The Brakettes batted twelve in the first inning, scoring seven as Val Suto singled, followed by Theresa Kane doubling her in. Marcelino singled her in, and advanced to third on an error and wild pitch. Jolie Duffner then drilled a single to centerfield for another run. Alex Heinen lined a hit, and Heather Holly blooped a single to centerfield for a run. Megan Hodgdon perfectly timed a change up, drilling a ball to the left field wall for a two run double and the early 7-0 lead.

Maddy Kester then came in and held the Brakettes scoreless for two innings. Similarly, Kaysee Talcik came in to pitch in the third and continued Brandice's dominance, with the two combining to retire the last fourteen batters of the game. However, in the fourth, with two outs, Denise Denis walked and a pitch hit Briana Marcelino. Duffner then doubled, producing the eighth and final run for the Brakettes in the 8-0 win.

Brandice Balschmiter and Kaysee Talcik (5-0) combined on the second no hitter of the weekend. Between them they struck out five hitters and allowed only one walk. Jolie Duffner was the only player with multiple hits.

Sunday's scheduled games have been cancelled due to expected high heat index.

The Brakettes return to Frank De Luca Hall of Fame Field on Thursday to face the Concord (Massachusetts) Raiders. After that, the Maryland Chill travel north for three double headers here Friday through Sunday. All games will be Webcast on Brakettes.com
