Geffert, Talcik Dominate in 2-0, 10-1 Victories over Lyons Spirit

July 29 - by Ilan Woll - Following a rainout v. the Allentown Patriettes, the Brakettes were anxious to get in some softball in the friendly rivalry with the Lyons Spirit in the Brakettes late July road trip. Raeanne Geffert took the circle against Jenn Shellhammer.

The Brakettes, as the road team, started the game off strong as Gabby Laccona walked. Casey Harding then beat out an infield hit and Jolie Duffner lined a single to left to load the bases. Alex Heinen then smashed a long drive to left field. While it lacked the distance to clear the 265 foot fence at Lyons Ballfield, it did serve as a sacrifice fly for the Brakettes first run.

Molly Keshin walked to start the second, advancing on a sacrifice bunt by new pickup Gretchen Bunovsky. But Shellhammer held the line and kept Stratford off the board.

Raeanne Geffert meanwhile, retired ten straight after Karen Bauer reached to start the bottom of the first. Kaitlyn Coleen nearly had a hit, but Molly Keshin cleared considerable ground and dove to deny the Spirit catcher a hit.

Harding walked to start the fifth. Jolie Duffner then laid down a sacrifice to advance Harding, and reached on a throwing error to put runners in scoring position. Heinen then sacrificed in the Brakettes second run for the Brakettes 2-0 win.

Raeanne Geffert (5-0) allowe only three hits while striking out eleven in her outing. Jolie Duffner had the only two hit game. Alex Heinen drove in both runs on sacrifice flies.

For game two Kaysee Talcik and Liz Gall took the respective positions in the circle.

Gabby Laccona started the early offense singling up the middle. Casey Harding then advanced her with a bunt, and Laccona reached third on a passed ball. Jolie Duffner then grounded to second, with the fielder choosing to throw home unsuccessfully as a run scored. Alex Heinen drilled a ball into the left field corner for a triple. Lauren Pitney drove her in with a single past the shortstop. Sam Rodriguez then walked, and an RBI single by Molly Keshin scored Pitney. A throwing error brought in Sammy Rodriguez, and then Gretchen Bunovsky singled into left field for an early 5-0 lead.

Pitney led the third with a single, as did Heather Holly. Rodriguez put the runners in scoring position when Bunovsky drilled a ball off the infielder for an RBI single and a 6-0 lead.

A walk to Harding and singles by Heinen, Pitney, and Holly brought in one run with a wild pitch scoring another when Rodriguez drilled a ball to deep center for a two run double. A double play ultimately ended the inning as two straight innings ended as the Spirit turned in a line drive double play.
Kaysee Talcik meanwhile, had been working at a furious pace, not allowing a hit until the fourth to Liz Gall. In the fifth, Sam Sweigert singled, and Libby Sugg demolished a ball into the gap, which scored Sweigert for an RBI triple. Talcik then struck out the last batter for a 10-1 run rule victory.

Kaysee Talcik (11-0) allowed just her second earned run all year in the three-hitter, striking out eight and walking none. Lauren Pitney had three hits while Gabby Laccona, Alex Heinen, Heather Holly, Molly Keshin, and Gretchen Bunovsky all provided two singles.
