BRAKETTES, JOAN JOYCE 'PITCH AND PUTT' GOLF TOURNAMENT SET FOR JUNE 29, 2019

STRATFORD, Oct 8 - The second annual Brakettes/Joan Joyce 'Pitch and Putt' golf tournament will be staged Saturday, June 29, 2019 at the Short Beach Rec Complex Par-3, 9-hole course. All proceeds from the event go to the operating expenses of Brakettes Softball in order to keep this wonderful tradition alive and well.

The tournament is a four-person scramble. There will be three flights, utilizing a shotgun format, at 8 a.m., 10 a.m., and 12:00 p.m.

The winning team in each flight will receive awards and the lowest scoring women's team in the tournament will also receive awards. All participants will receive lunch and pictures from the Brakettes photographer after the tournament. There will be over three dozen raffle prizes as well.

“We had two flights last year and were completely filled. We expect to be again this year,” said Brakettes General Manager and tournament director Bob Baird. “It was a great day for golf and the presence of Joan Joyce made it even greater.”

Joyce is regarded as the greatest women's softball player in history. During her stellar career with the Raybestos Brakettes she won 429 games, struck out a record 5,677 batters, and was a 15-time National ASA All-American. Joan, a native of Waterbury, CT, was selected the ASA tournament MVP eight times and she led the Brakettes in hitting six times.

A member of the LPGA tour for 19 years, Joyce is listed in the Guinness Book of World Records for the lowest number of putts (17) in a single round for both men and women.

She became the first women's softball coach at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, where she led the Owls to their 12th conference championship in 2018.

The Stratford Brakettes are beginning their 73rd year of operation. This year they are also fielding an 18U team, the Junior Brakettes. The Brakettes do not have a sponsor and they rely on a myriad of fund-raising endeavors to remain viable. Brakettes Softball is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation and all donations are tax deductible.

For Tournament details, directions and to register, download the Brochure/Application form. The deadline to register is June 22nd, or when the three flights are filled, whichever comes first. For additional information, contact GM Bob Baird at (203) 218-1066.
