STRATFORD BRAKETTES COMPLETE SWEEP OF PRIDE
June 17 - Jolie Duffner's two-run single keyed a five-run third inning for the Stratford Brakettes and a 7-1 win in the nightcap of a Sunday doubleheader sweep over the Tanner Pride of Woburn, MA, at Frank DeLuca Hall of Fame Field.
The Brakettes (14-1), who have 14 straight games, survived a wild opener with an 8-7 win.
Britt Younan, Monroe's Gretchen Bunovsky, Duffner and Ansonia's Lauren Pitney all singled in the decisive third inning against Pride pitcher Michelle Morales to break open a 2-1 game. Younan, Alex Heinen,and Pitney had two hits each in the game and Gillian Birk added two RBI.
Tara Driver's leadoff home run made it a one-run game in the top of the second after the Brakettes took a 2-0 lead in the first on RBI from Casey Harding and Hodgdon.
Kaysee Talcik (5-0) of Shelton picked up the win as she faced seven of her former teammates from UMass-Lowell.
In the first game, Julia Handfield (3-0) was the winner, thanks to Denise Denis' sac fly that put the Brakettes ahead 7-6. Denis and Heinen both hit two-run home runs, while Pitney, Megan Hodgdon and Britt Lampert had two hits.
Courtney Cashman, the UMass-Lowell All-America shortstop, finished the day with four hits in five at bats. She played for the Brakettes in 2017.
The Junior Brakettes had a successful weekend at Pates Park in Allentown going 3-1. They defeated the Pennsylvania Odyessy 23U 7-1 in the opener and rallied from a 4-0 deficit to beat the Allentown Patriettes 23U 7-6 in the nightcap to raise their record to 8-4. |
