Sunday Afternoon
Brakettes Finish off Weekend Strong, Win Both Games vs Concord Raiders

July 15 – by Jeff Glazer The Stratford Brakettes won both games against the Concord Raiders Sunday afternoon at Frank DeLuca Hall of Fame Field by scores of 10-2 and 7-2. The Brakettes exploded on offense in both games, overpowering opposing pitching; en route to a flawless weekend.

Kaysee Talcik got things started in Game One and got off to a hot start. Talcik pitched three straight scoreless frames to start the game. She would allow just two earned runs in her six innings of work, racking up 10 strikeouts in the process.

It was all about the bats for the Brakettes on Sunday afternoon. Alex Heinen got the team off to a hot start with an RBI single in the first (photo), but it was Jolie Duffner’s two-run home run (3) in the third that sparked the team’s rally. Another run would come across in the inning after a bases loaded walk issued to Mia Juodaitis.

Theresa Kane and Britt Lampert would combine for RBI singles, driving in one and two runs respectively, in the home fifth and Lauren Pitney would wrap things up with a two-run double in the bottom of the sixth. Pitney’s double made it a 10-2 ballgame and the Mercy Rule went into effect there. Kaycee Talcik moves to 12-0 on the year with the win.

Similar to Game One, Julia Handfield started things the right way with five straight scoreless innings. Handfield threw a complete game, allowing just two earned runs. Brakettes pitching did more than enough to keep them in both games on Sunday afternoon.

The Brakettes did all of their damage in two innings. Back-to-back RBI singles for Alex Heinen and Briana Marcelino gave them a 2-0 lead after the first inning. However, in the fifth, five runs would cross the plate. Four straight RBI hits helped the Brakettes' cause. An RBI double for Duffner led the way for three straight RBI singles by Heinen, Marcelino, and Pitney.

Gillian Birk would cap it off with a sacrifice ground out, but 7 runs would be plenty to carry the Brakettes to a doubleheader sweep. Julia Handfield moves to 6-0 on the season.

The Brakettes are now 35-1. They will return to action Thursday against the CT Eliminators in another doubleheader. The action starts at 7:00pm at Frank DeLuca Hall of Fame Field and both games will be webcast on Brakettes.com.
