STRATFORD AND JUNIOR BRAKETTES DEFEAT MARYLAND CHILL SUNDAY
June 28 - Sydney Senerchia of North Branford won her first game for the Stratford Brakettes Sunday at Frank DeLuca Hall of Fame Field as she held the Maryland Chill to a pair of singles and recorded seven strikeouts in a 9-0 win. The Stratford Brakettes now boast a 55-game winning streak.
In the second game of the split doubleheader, Norwich Free Academy graduate Sophia DiCocco pitched six innings of one-hit ball to lead the Junior Brakettes to a 6-0 victory.
The Stratford Brakettes began the scoring in the first when Ansonia's Lauren Pitney's sacrifice fly put them ahead 1-0 before Kaitlyn Flood of Southbury belted a two-run home run to left center. It was her first of the year.
Shelton's Emma Larke drove in a run with a fielder's choice and Val Suto followed with an RBI single for a 5-0 lead in the fifth. Flood delivered a two-run single and Thomaston's Alexa Milius followed with a two-run walk-off home run in the bottom of the sixth of the mercy-rule game.
Senerchia displayed excellent control as the Stratford Brakettes improved to 9-0.
DiCocco was equally outstanding. She struck out six and walked just one for the Junior Brakettes (1-4).
Masuk High All-Stater Madison Procyk, who pitched the seventh inning, led the Junior Brakettes with three hits, while Manhattan College freshman Gabby Mazzotta added a pair.
The Junior Brakettes are back in action Wednesday at DeLuca Field when they host the CT Rogue, the first of three straight doubleheaders. The Stratford Brakettes are idle until July 9 when they play the Cheshire Wildcats 18 Gold team.
