STRATFORD BRAKETTES FACE BUSY SCHEDULE AS THEY REACH MIDWAY POINT OF SEASON

July 8 - The Stratford Brakettes enter the second half of their season Thursday night when they host the Cheshire Wildcat 18 Gold team at 7 p.m. in a doubleheader at Frank DeLuca Hall of Fame Field.

“We've only been playing for a bit over two weeks and here we are at the midway point. It's just one crazy year,” said veteran Manager John Stratton. “We've still got about 25 games to play.” The Brakettes, who began the season two weeks later than usual because of Coronavirus, are 9-0 and boast a 55-game win streak, dating back to the second game of last season's opener against the Junior Brakettes, who won the opener then by 3-1.

Thursday begins a busy four-day stretch for the defending two-time national champions as they host the Massachusetts Drifters in a four-game series with doubleheaders Friday and Saturday nights and then conclude with a 4 p.m. Sunday twin-bill against the Concord, MA, Raiders.

The Junior Brakettes were postponed for the fifth time this year when rain washed away Wednesday's doubleheader with Softball U. Those games will be rescheduled.

Catchers Kaitlyn Flood and Alexa Milius and second baseman Lauren Pitney of Ansonia lead the Brakettes offense, combining for 36 hits, or one-third of the team's total to date. Flood (.615) has driven in 13 runs, Milius 11, and Pitney eight. Milius leads with three home runs, while Pitney and Seymour's Rebecca Findley both have two.

Ali DuBois (2-0, 0.50), a Boston University All-America pitcher, Kaysee Talcik (2-0, 1.17) of Shelton and Waterbury's Sarah Lawton (2-0, 1.50) are all averaging double-figure strikeouts per game.

BRAKETTES BRIEFS- Former Shelton High and Concordia outfielder Brittany Lampert recently retired after seven years on the team. She had a .386 career batting average with 190 runs scored. Britt will be honored at a future date. . . . Team USA, which had its pre-Olympic tour stopped by COVID-19, will be making a return trip to Stratford's DeLuca Field next June. The exact date will be announced soon, but anyone who purchased tickets for this year's game and didn't seek a refund will automatically receive tickets for 2021. . . Former three-year Brakettes third baseman Jolie Duffner of Jefferson City, MO, recently graduated from Florida Atlantic and she has been commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Air Force. She will be attending the Uniformed Services University School of Medicine in Bethesda, Maryland. . . Drifters head coach Patty Griffin is a former Quinnipiac softball standout and a member of the school's hall of fame.
