STRATFORD BRAKETTES SWEEP TWIN-BILL FROM CHESHIRE WILDCATS
July 9 - Stratford Brakettes pitcher Sarah Lawton allowed only one baserunner and she struck out 12 in a five-inning, 9-0 win over the Cheshire Wildcats 18 Gold team Thursday night at Frank DeLuca Hall of Fame Field in the first game of a doubleheader. In the nightcap, Sydney Senerchia allowed two hits as the Brakettes completed the sweep with an 8-0, mercy-run rule.
The Brakettes improved their record to 11-0 on the season. They return to action Friday at 7 p.m. when the Massachusetts Drifters visit DeLuca for a doubleheader to begin a six-game road trip.
Jacey Cosciello's two-out single in the third inning produced Cheshire's only baserunner. Lawton (3-0) has struck out 41 batters in 19 innings this year. Twice she struck out the side and she fanned at least two batters in every other inning.
Alexa Milius and Gillian Birk hit consecutive home runs in the four-run Brakettes first inning. Rebecca Johnson led the offense with three hits and four RBI, while Milius and Val Suto both had two hits.
Senerchia registered her second straight shutout and she finished with 10 strikeouts.
Abby Abramson hit a two-run home run in the second inning and finished with three RBI.
Lea White singled on the first pitch from Senerchia and Cosciello singled with one out in the fifth for the Wildcats.
