LAWTON, ABRAMSON COMBINE TO NO-HIT MASS DRIFTERS
July 11 - Sarah Lawton came on in relief to get the final two outs in the seventh inning with the bases full of Masschusetts Drifters to finish off a combined no-hitter with Abby Abramson as the Stratford Brakettes completed a sweep Saturday night at Frank DeLuca Hall of Fame Field with a 2-1 win.
Abramson (3-0) went 6.1 innings before an error and three walks made it a 2-1 game. With rain falling, Lawton came in to record a strikeout and the game-clincher when a Drifters runner tried to steal home. Abramson struck out eight.
The Brakettes scored 11 runs in the bottom of the first inning of the opener on eight hits and coasted to a five-inning, 16-1 victory. Kaysee Talcik tossed a three-hitter and struck out 10 to raise her record to 3-0.
Briana Marcelino's two-run double produced both Brakettes runs in the third inning.
Val Suto, Gretchen Bunovsky, and Emma Larke both had three hits in the opener, while Marcelino and Rebecca Findley had two hits each. Lauren Pitney and Findley drove in three runs and Suto and Larke had two RBI.
The Stratford Brakettes (13-0) host the Concord, MA, Raiders Sunday in a 4 p.m. doubleheader.
In Saturday's first doubleheader, the Junior Brakettes (5-4) won their fifth straight by sweeping the CT Eliminators 18+ by scores of 9-1 and 6-5 in nine innings. Claire McCann picked up the win with three scoreless relief innings in the come-from-behind win, while Maddie Procyk was in complete control in the opener.
The Junior Brakettes face the Drifters Sunday at 10 a.m. in a twin-bill.
