EMMA LARKE TAKES OVER BATTING LEAD FOR UNBEATEN STRATFORD BRAKETTES
July 14 - She is considered the 'second leadoff' hitter, batting ninth in the order. It doesn't matter to Emma Larke of Shelton where she bats, so long as she's in the lineup.
In last week's six-game sweep at Frank DeLuca Hall of Field the left-handed Larke feasted on the offerings of opposing pitchers. The ultra-quick outfielder, in her first year on the Stratford Brakettes, was the toughest out in the lineup. She had eight straight hits in her 10 at bats.
Now leading the team in batting with a .566 average (17-for-30), she will try to keep the hot streak alive as the Brakettes bring a 15-0 record into Wednesday night's 7 p.m. doubleheader against the Stripes & Strikes 23U team of Hazelton, PA.
Emma has been a steady bat in our lineup, said Manager John Stratton. She is an adept bunter, but can also spray hits all over the place. Larke shouldn't harbor any ideas of moving up to the leadoff spot. That's reserved for center fielder Val Suto, a two-time batting champion, who has the highest on-base percentage of any Brakettes player in history.
Stripes & Strikes always boasts an explosive lineup. This year is no exception as the Trivelpiece sisters Megan (Drexel), Maria (Fordham), and recent Hazelton High graduate Marissa (Michigan State) will be leading the attack. Marissa, a four-time All-State first-team shortstop, recently was named the Pennsylvania Gatorade Player of the Year.
The manager of the Stripes & Strikes is former Redding Sunner pitcher Vince Trivelpiece. He was the backup to legendary ISF Hall of Famer Ty Stofflet, who spent many years as the chief nemesis of the former Raybestos Cardinals.
The Brakettes and S & S play again Thursday at 7 p.m., before the Junior Brakettes play a doubleheader with the CT Rogue Friday at 7 p.m.
The second annual Micki Stratton Round Robin will be staged Saturday and Sunday with 12 games on tap. Action begins at 8 a.m. both days with the final game set for 5:30 p.m. Both Brakettes teams along with the CT Eliminators Women, CT Eliminators 18+, Team CT, and the Rogue will play four games each.
Prior to the Stratford and Junior Brakettes game Saturday at 5:30 p.m. Brittany Lampert of Shelton will be honored in pre-game ceremonies. The outfielder played seven years and hit .386 for her career before announcing her retirement at the start of the season.
