STRIPES & STRIKES EARNS SPLIT WITH BRAKETTES
July 16 - Samantha Gress crushed a two-run home run in the fifth inning to give Stripes & Strikes a 2-1 lead and Rachel Hubertus added a three-run shot in the seventh as the Hazelton, PA, team earned a split with the Stratford Brakettes Wednesday night at Frank DeLuca Hall of Fame Field with a 6-1 win.
The victory for S & S also ended the Brakettes 62-game win streak, dating back to the 2019 season opener.
Gress, a standout at North Carolina State, couldn't beat the Brakettes from the mound in the opener, losing 4-3. However, she delivered a towering home run to deep left field for the go-ahead margin against Brakettes ace Sarah Lawton (5-1). Gress also had a single in the four-run seventh, prior to Hubertus belting the insurance home run.
The Brakettes fell to 16-1 on the season.
Abby Abramson (4-0) was the winner in the opener, needing relief help from Lawton, who allowed only one hit in three innings. Val Suto led the Brakettes 11-hit attack with three hits.
The two teams meet again Thursday in a doubleheader at DeLuca Field at 7 p.m. |
