LAWTON'S SHUTOUT WIN STOPS TWO-GAME LOSING SKID

July 17 - Stratford Brakettes pitcher Sarah Lawton bounced back from her first loss of the season by pitching a three-hit shutout in a 1-0 victory over Stripes & Strikes of Hazelton, PA, Thursday night in the second game of the doubleheader at Frank DeLuca Hall of Fame Field.

Lawton (6-1) of Waterbury struck out 10 batters and allowed only two S & S batters to reach second base. Lawton's effort came after the Stripes & Strikes rallied from a 2-1 deficit with three runs in the top of the sixth inning to record a 4-2 win in the opener.

Manager Vince Trivelpiece received a sensational outing from his three daughters, Marissa, Megan, and Maria, who combined for five of his team's six hits against loser Kaysee Talcik (3-1). Megan Trivelpiece drove in two runs while she and Marissa both had two hits.

With their second straight win over the Brakettes (17-2) in two nights it marked the first time since July 2012 in Henderson, NV, that the Brakettes had lost consecutive games. Thanks to Lawton's outstanding performance the Brakettes avoided losing consecutive games at DeLuca Field on the same day. The last time that occurred was July 2001 when the Phoenix Storm won three straight games after the Brakettes won the series opener.

Briana Marcelino had half of the Brakettes six hits with Alexa Milius and Katie Sciglimpaglia both driving in a run in the opener. The second game's only run, scored by Milius, was the result of an error by S & S.

Rebecca Johnson had two hits and two stolen bases and Lauren Pitney a double in the nightcap.

The Junior Brakettes take a seven-game win streak into Friday's 7 p.m. twin-bill against the CT Rogue at DeLuca Field.
