The Brakettes made it back to the World Tournament in 1953, which was played in Toronto, Canada. The addition of pitchers Mary Jane Hagan of Stamford, CT, and Olive Anderson to veterans Barbara Abernethy and Dolores Ruffo gave the Brakettes its finest pitching staff ever.
The team won their fourth regional title and won their first two games of the World Tournament to finish as a quarterfinalist.
Outfielder Dena Kuczo was a first-team All-America. The Brakettes finished with a 26-12 record, which saw them also finish as runner-up in the National Girls' Softball League. |
