STRATFORD BRAKETTES HOST BREAST CANCER AWARENESS NIGHT AT DELUCA; PUT WINNING STREAK ON LINE

June 28, 2013 - Tonight is Breast Cancer Awareness Night at DeLuca Field, as the Brakettes hope to raise awareness for the cause. Stop by DeLuca Field to show your support!! The Brakettes will put their lengthy home field winning streak on the line this weekend against the Massachusetts Pride. The squads will play twin-bills Friday and Saturday nights at 7, as the Pride attempt to derail the Brakettes' considerable momentum.

The Brakettes picked up two more shutout victories last night to improve their overall record to 24-0 on the season. It also extended the team's consecutive game winning streak at DeLuca Field to 134 games. The last loss occurred on June 4, 2010 to the Newtown Rock, PA, Gold, who will be visiting town in early July.

Since opening the 2010 season with a split against the Rock, the Brakettes have compiled an overall record of 206-3, with two of the losses to the National Pro Fastpitch Akron Racers in Ohio last July by identical 5-3 scores. The other setback was a 3-2 loss to the Southern California Hurricanes in the first round of the Fastpitch Championship Invitational in Las Vegas last year. The Brakettes rallied for seven straight victories to capture that title, including two straight over the Hurricanes.

The Mass Pride features Jennifer Robillard of Sacred Heart, Hannah Lindsay of Quinnipiac, pitcher Lauren Duggan of UConn, and Quianna Diaz-Patterson, Olivia Godin, Maggie Quealy and Anna Kelley of UMass.

"We're expecting to see some good pitching this week," said Manager John Stratton. "The way we have been playing lately, it's going to take a dominant pitching effort to stop us." The last pitcher to beat them will be on the mound tonight wearing a Brakettes uniform. Second-year player Samantha Greiner (9-0, 0.27 ERA) will pitch the opener with Stephanie Call (11-0, 0.00 ERA) working the nightcap. Call is striking out nearly two batters per inning.

Just one-third into the season the Brakettes already have nine players with double figure RBI, led by Call's 30. Call continues to swing a hot back with her .536 average, but newcomer Elise Fortier has taken over the batting lead with a .563 mark. Fortier is 27-for-48 and she had a stretch of 14 consecutive at bats last week where she reached base. Call and Fortier share the home run lead with six.
