BRAKETTES HOST HIGH SCHOOL ALL-STARS IN BIG WEEKEND FOR ALL THREE TEAMS
June 16 - The Stratford Brakettes play their annual nine-inning game against the Connecticut High School all-stars Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at Frank DeLuca Hall of Fame Field. It starts a busy weekend for all three Brakettes teams.
The all-stars will feature many of the top senior players who performed both at DeLuca Field and West Haven High School in the semifinals and championship games. The CHSCA conducted their two all-star games Wednesday night in Meriden and they picked 18 players to face the Brakettes.
Four members of the Brakettes organization took part in those games. Junior Brakettes Abby Ota (Joel Barlow) and Cassi Barbato (Trumbull) and Select Brakettes Kelly Pritchard (Amity) and Mac Stone-Folmar (Notre Dame) were hoping to gain a spot in the game Thursday.
Manager John Straton's Brakettes (8-0) captured the championship of the Cornfield Classic in Lyons, PA. last week. Ali DuBois (4-0, 0.00 ERA), Sarah Lawton (3-0, 0.22) and lefty Sydney Senerchia, recently cleared to resume pitching, will divide the mound chores.
Rookie Jana Sanden of Riverton, CT and the Big East Freshman of the Year at UConn is off to a good start with a .417 batting average, two home runs and 10 RBI. Lauren Rende and catcher Charlee Horton lead the hitters at .500, while Stratton has received solid catching performances from Kaitlyn Flood (.455).
Friday night the Junior Brakettes face CT Impact 23U in a 7p.m. twin-bill at DeLuca Field, while the Juniors entertain the CT Eliminators Women at 1 p.m. Saturday before the Stratford Brakettes and CT Impact play a pair of games at 7 p.m. The Juniors also host the CT Eliminators 18+ in a Sunday 1 p.m. matchup.
Coach Lauren Pitney's Select Brakettes open their inaugural season Friday night at Meriden's Dunn Sports Complex in the Summer Slam Invitational..They play the Eliminators Elite at 4 p.m. and Hornets at 5:30 p.m.to start the weekend tourney. Maloney grad Lea White (UMass Lowell), ex-St. Joseph all-state pitcher Payton Doiron (Bentley University) and Notre Dame High all-stater Mac Stone-Folmar (Barry University) are three of the team's top players.
