SARAH LAWTON PITCHES STRATFORD BRAKETTES TO SWEEP
June 25 - Sarah Lawton picked up both wins Thursday night as the Stratford Brakettes swept a doubleheader from the Junior Brakettes by scores of 7-0 and 7-1 at Frank DeLuca Hall of Fame Field.
The Stratford Brakettes return to action Friday night at 7 p.m. in another doubleheader against the Maryland Chill.
Lawton (6-0) pitched a four-hitter in the first game and struck out 12 batters, while she allowed only four hits in the nightcap, both coming as the Junior Brakettes loaded the bases with one out but failed to score. Celia Macari's sacrifice fly drove in Cassi Barbato for the Juniors only run in the top of the seventh inning.
Sam Schiebe pitched well in the opener until the Stratford Brakettes collected five hits and three runs in the sixth inning. Abby Ota, Aliya Catanzarita, Gillian Kane and Celia Macari had hits for the Juniors. Kaitlyn Flood had two hits and three RBI in the first game.
Lauren Rende drove in three runs in the nightcap with a five-run third inning the key for the 11-0 Stratford Brakettes, who extended their winning streak to 29 straight games. Ali Blanchard struck out seven in her three innings of work for the Junior Brakettes (6-7). Sophia DiCocco held the Stratford Brakettes scoreless for three innings in relief.
