Brakettes Advance to Semifinals With 8-0 Win
Aug. 7 - By Connor Pignatello - The Brakettes advanced to the WMS national championship semifinals by beating the Connecticut Impact 8-0 in 5 innings. Lauren Rende broke out of a 2-12 slump by going 3-3 with four RBIs.
Rende said her teammates’ advice was key to making solid contact.
“Definitely it has to do with my teammates reminding me how I hit and not hitting the pitchers’ pitches … in my second at-bat, getting super excited and fouling [a pitch] off. The next pitch happened to be a home run.”
After a 1-2-3 first inning, the bottom of the Stratford order exploded in the bottom of the second. Lauren Rende, Kristen Acocella, and Emma Larke all secured RBI hits. Acocella, Larke, and Charlee Horton -- the bottom three of the Stratford batting order -- combined to go 6-7 with a walk.
In the third frame, Lauren Rende followed up her double in the previous inning with a three-run home run. Stratford added a run in the fourth and fifth innings to end the game due to run rule.
Ali DuBois was masterful again. She allowed just one hit across five innings and struck out eight. Against the Impact on August 1, DuBois allowed no runs on three hits. In three games against the Impact this season, Stratford pitching has allowed just six hits.
Yesterday, the Brakettes beat the Eliminators 15-0 and the Impact squeaked past the Junior Brakettes 7-5 in eight innings.
Tonight, the Brakettes face the winner of the Select Brakettes and the Pennsylvania Stripes and Strikes at 7:15 p.m. in the winner’s bracket final. |
