FORE!!! SPONSOR A HOLE AT THE 2023 JOAN JOYCE MEMORIAL “PITCH AND PUTT” GOLF TOURNAMENT!

Apr 10 - The Joan Joyce Memorial “Pitch and Putt” golf tournament will be held Saturday, June 24th at Stratford's Short Beach par-3 golf course. This annual event serves to honor and remember the incomparable Joan Joyce, while celebrating two of her greatest loves… the Stratford Brakettes and PLAYING GOLF!

The tournament is a shot gun format and has three flights scheduled for 8 a.m., 10 a.m., and 12 p.m. The rain date is Saturday, July 8. The “Pitch and Putt’ tournament sells out its 108 spots each year to Stratford locals and diehard softball enthusiasts, making it an attractive sponsorship opportunity to businesses and fans.

Hole sponsorship (see sample sign, right, from the 2018 tournament) is available for each of the nine holes for only $50 per hole. Each hole sponsor will receive a Brakettes 7-day pass, which is good for ONE ADMISSION to seven regular season home doubleheaders of your choice. All proceeds from the event go directly to the operating costs for the Stratford and Junior Brakettes teams.

To sponsor a hole, please complete the hole sponsorship form and return it to:

Brakettes Softball
185 Lordship Road
Stratford, CT 06615

If you sponsored a hole last year and did not take your sign, we have it and will use it again. Otherwise, fill out the form and return it no later than June 10th to have a new sign printed in time for display on June 24th.

Joan Joyce is widely considered the greatest women's softball pitcher in the history of the game, having played most of her career with the Raybestos Brakettes, from 1956-1963 and 1967-1975. She captured eight ASA national tournament MVP Awards and was named first-team All-America 15 times, while winning a total of 429 games.

Joyce was the head softball coach at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, while also serving as the Owls women’s golf coach for most of her tenure there. After all, Joan played 19 years on the LPGA tour and still holds the record for fewest putts (17) in an LPGA round.

Joan Joyce passed away on March 26, 2022. Longtime Brakettes Manager John Stratton shared his thoughts after her passing… “Joan will be remembered forever by the Brakettes as a legendary competitor and a loyal friend. She was simply the greatest.”
