Vincent "Wee" Devitt was named manager of the Brakettes, who finished 1962 with a 54-8 overall record.
While winning the Eastern Girls Softball League title, the Brakettes were hosts for the World Tournament. However, the team failed to advance to the championship game as they finished third.
The Brakettes lost to defending champion Whittier Gold Sox, CA, 1-0, and eventual tournament champ Orange, CA, Lionettes, 3-0.
Pitcher Joan Joyce was the only first-team All-America selection, while second baseman Millie Dixon, outfielder Mary Thompson and catcher Micki Stratton were chosen to the second team. |
