Brakettes' 2007 Opener Set For Memorial Day Weekend

April 5, 2007 - The Brakettes will open their 2007 season during Memorial Day Weekend, at Frank DeLuca HOF Field in Stratford. The Brakettes will host the Quebec Rebelles, one of the top Women’s Major Fastpitch teams in Canada, in a Saturday night doubleheader, May 26th at 7 PM. The Saturday night twin-bill will be followed by a Sunday matinee double-header, starting at 11 AM.

The games mark the first time the Brakettes will be playing in May in over a decade. General Manager Bob Baird talked about the early season match-up. “We are very pleased to host one of Canada’s finest teams on Opening Day. The Rebelles have represented Canadian fastpitch well through the years, and we are planning a big softball celebration. We are excited to offer fans some quality competition during the Memorial Day weekend, and to kick off the summer softball season the right way”.

The Brakettes have already announced the roster commitments of 2006 NPF Connecticut Brakettes’ players Stephanie Hill, Denise Denis, and Leslie Malerich. In addition, numerous members from last season’s ASA Women’s Major Fastpitch champion Stratford Brakettes will compete for the team this summer.

The Brakettes’ 2007 schedule will be released in the coming days, and several dates loom large. The Dominican Republic National Team will appear in Stratford this summer to renew their rivalry with the Brakettes, and the ASA 23 and Under National will be held in Stratford the last week of July.

Baird is very satisfied with the early season start. “With the ASA National Tournament being played earlier than ever, (August 4-7, in South Bend, Indiana), we want to be able to offer our fans more softball on the front-end of the season. We anticipate another championship contender this summer, and the Brakettes fans deserve a chance to see as much of the action as possible”.
