Brakettes Defeat Patriot Gators 8-0, 7-2

June 8, 2007 - The Brakettes went on the road for the first time in the 2007 season, but the results were the same, as they captured a doubleheader from the Patriot Gators at Patriots' Park in Allentown, PA, by 8-0 and 7-2 margins.

The Brakettes were paced in the first game by Brandice Balschmiter's one-hit, 12 strikeout performance. Now at 4-0, Balschmiter has yet to allow a run this season. Whitney Mollica had three hits and three RBI, and Mandie Fishback went 2-for-3 with two runs scored. The red and white pounded out 11 hits to back up Balschmiter.

Candice Freel struck out eight in the second game, a five inning game shortened due to lightning. The two runs allowed came in the fifth, and were both unearned. Freel also improved to 4-0, and pitched just blocks away from her home ballpark from last season, Bicentennial Park, home of the Philadelphia Force. Freel is one of four current Brakettes who played last year in the pro league.

Courtney Bures smacked two home runs in the night cap, to follow a two-hit performance in the opener. Beth Boden, who led the NCAA in home runs this season at Tennessee Tech, hit her first homer for the Brakettes. Bures' second smash immediately followed Boden's shot in the fifth inning. Chelsea Bramlett had two hits and two stolen bases in the late game, and Fishback had two hits and three steals to help the Brakettes' attack.

The Brakettes play Saturday night in Topton, PA against the Topton VIP's at 7:00. They will play the Maurer and Scott Blasters on Sunday at 12:00 in Topton. With the wins, the Brakettes improved to 8-0 for the season.
