Brakettes Top CT High School All-Stars, 9-1

June 16, 2012 - The Stratford Brakettes defeated the CT High School All-Stars 9-1 at DeLuca Field Friday night, displaying a balanced attack in their annual matchup with the best seniors from around the state. The game was recorded for future broadcast by CPTV Sports and will be aired by the 24-hour sports channel on Tuesday night, June 19th, at 7:00.

Brandice Balschmiter struck out 15 batters to pick up the win, her seventh of the 2012 campaign. She scattered four hits, which came in consecutive fashion during the All-Stars' run-scoring sixth inning.

The Brakettes' home first began with Alisa Heronema getting hit by All-Star starter Yesenia Evaristo. Heronema went to third on a single by Ashley Waters and scored on a sac fly to center off the bat of Mandie Fishback.

The one-run lead held up until the fifth, when the Brakettes plated four more runs.

Heronema led off with a single and took second as the All-Star infielders were slow to get the ball back to Evaristo in the circle. Waters drew a walk to put two on, and Fishback followed with an RBI single to score Heronema. Waters then scored on a wild pitch for a 3-0 edge.

Jess Mouse drove Fishback in for the Brakettes' fourth run with a two-out single, then went home on a double by Amber Radomski, which pushed the lead to 5-0.

The All-Stars broke through off Balschmiter in the sixth, as they collected four straight singles to start the inning. Britt Lambert led off and reached on a bunt single, but was thrown out at second trying to steal on a controversial call. Lambert seemed to slide into second safely, but was called out on the tag, leading to moans from the All-Stars' fans.

Olivia Gozdz picked up the next hit for the All-Stars and made her way around the bases on a single by Jacky Ferraiolo and subsequent miscue by Tami Vermeulen in left field. Ferraiolo made it to second on the play, as the All-Stars closed the gap to 5-1.

Christine Pinnkatok contributed the fourth straight hit for the All-Stars, but Balschmiter retired the next two batters to snuff out the rally.

The Brakettes pushed the lead to 7-1 in the seventh inning on Steph Call's third homer of the year, a two-run blast to left field. The long ball also drove in Fishback, who led off the inning with the second of her three hits in the game.

Heronema scored her third run of the game in the eighth, after reaching on a one-out single. She came home from second base on a single by Waters, who also had three hits on the day. Waters scored the Brakettes' ninth run on a base hit by Fishback, who drove in three runs and was named the CPTV Sports Player of the Game.

Jessica DeMaio threw two scoreless innings for the All-Stars. Erica Ambrosio and Elissa Graf also earned walks for Connecticut.

The Brakettes improved to 11-0 on the season with the victory, and will head to Lyons, PA for five games over the weekend.
