Brakettes Top Condors in FCI Tourney Prep Game

July 28, 2012 - The Stratford Brakettes defeated the California Condors 8-0 in five innings on Friday night in the Fastpitch Championship Invitational in Henderson, Nevada. Sam Greiner pitched a two-hitter and Ashley Waters smacked a two-run homer in a warm-up to Saturday's double-elimination bracket play.

Stratford got started early, as the first two Brakettes to come to the plate scored.

Alisa Heronema earned a walk to start the home first and went to second on a wild pitch. Ashley Waters sacrificed her over to third, and an errant throw to first on the bunt allowed Heronema to score.

Waters went to second on the error and scored on a double by Mandie Fishback for a 2-0 edge.

Carly Normandin and Kate Bowen reached base on walks in the second and scored on consecutive RBI singles by Mariel Schlaefer and Alisa Heronema. The Brakettes held the 4-0 lead into the fifth.

Heronema led off the fifth and picked up her second hit of the night. Waters followed and crushed a shot over the fence in dead center, her 11th homer of the year. The two-run blast extended the lead to 6-0.

Denise Denis continued the rally and pulled a double to right, and then scored on Steffi Call’s second double of the contest. Lindsey Kay Bright came in to run for Call and advanced to third on a groundout by Fishback.

After Jess Mouse reached on a walk, Carly Normandin delivered an RBI single to score Bright for an 8-0, run-rule shortened victory.

The Brakettes will take on the two-time defending FCI champion SoCal Hurricanes in an 11:00 ET matchup on Saturday. The Corona Angels await the winner of the Brakettes-Hurricanes contest at 12:45 ET.
