Bertha Ragan Tickey (1923-2014)

April 14, 2014 - The entire softball world is saddened at the sudden passing of Bertha Ragan Tickey, legendary pitcher for the Orange, CA Lionettes and Raybestos Brakettes. Bertha was a member of 11 ASA National Championship teams, including four with the Lionettes (1950-52, 1955), and then, bringing her winning tradition East in 1956, winning seven more with the Brakettes (1958-60, 63, 66-68).

The Brakettes thank Bertha's very good friend Vicki Worthley for sending us a one-page bio of Bertha, plus recent photos and this biographical article written for "Serb World" magazine by Bertha's daughter Janice, on the occasion of the 2009 dedication of the Dinuba, CA High School varsity softball field as "Bertha Tickey Field".

Services for Bertha will be at Boice Funeral Home in Clovis, California on Tuesday, April 22nd at 2:00pm. The family has said that remembrances may be made to the Bertha Ragan Tickey Scholarship Fund, c/o Dinuba High School, 1327 E. El Monte Way, Dinuba, CA 93618
