CONNECTICUT BRAKETTES, RIPTIDE GAME CALLED OFF AFTER FOUR INNINGS WITH BRAKETTES LEADING 1-0
![]() Even though the Brakettes were three outs from their first official NPF victory, it will go in the books as a no-contest. It will be rescheduled later in the weekend. The teams return to action Friday, June 2 for a 7:05 p.m. game at DeLuca Field. The Brakettes and Riptide also play 7:05 p.m. Saturday and 5:05 p.m. Sunday. With a crowd of 778 on hand, the teams were scoreless after 2 innings before the Brakettes reached Danielle Henderson, a former five-year Brakettes pitcher, to take the lead. Kelly Kretschman led off the inning by bouncing a grounder up the middle that caromed off Hendersons glove and into right center field for a double. Stephanie Best sacrificed Kretschman into scoring position, but Henderson got Kellie Wilkerson on a ground out to shortstop Destiny Frankenstein, who made a nice play to nip Wilkerson at first base. Germaine Fairchild, who won the Brakettes batting title with a .389 average last year, then lined Hendersons first pitch into right field for an RBI single. Sarah Pauly, who compiled a 24-8 record last year, had allowed only two base-runners through four innings. She didnt allow a hit and struck out six Riptide batters. |
