BRAKETTES SWEEP DOUBLEHEADER FROM CHINESE TAIPEI OLYMPIC TEAM BY 3-1, 3-2
June 11, 2006 - The Connecticut Brakettes swept both ends of a double header with the Chinese Taipei Olympic Team, Sunday night in Stratford at Frank DeLuca HOF Field, by scores of 3-1 and 3-2. Nikki Myers returned to softball after not playing in 2005, and appeared to pick up right where she left off. Myers scattered three hits over seven innings, striking out seven and walking none. She allowed just one unearned run, and never appeared to be in trouble on the mound. Rookie Stephanie Hill had an RBI triple in her first professional start, after scoring the go-ahead run Saturday in the season-opening win at Philadelphia. After Chinese Taipei tied the game in the top of the fifth inning, Stephanie Best added a 2-run double in the bottom half to provide the game-winning RBI for the second straight game. Sarah Pauly also went the distance in the nightcap while striking out eleven and walking none. She gave up five hits and two runs, one earned. The Brakettes benefited from two unearned runs in the bottom of the first, and added another on Jessica Merchants home run in the fourth, her second dinger in three games. After jumping out 3-0, the Brakettes allowed two runs in the sixth, and Chinese Taipei was threatening to tie the game with a runner on third with two outs. Pauly worked out of the jam, and breezed through the seventh inning for her second win in as many games. The Brakettes will play host to Chinese Taipei again on both Monday and Tuesday, with single games each night starting at 7:05. The Brakettes now stand at 3-0 on the season, with Chinese Taipei at 0-2 on their North American tour. |
