CONNECTICUT BRAKETTES DEFEAT CHINESE TAIPEI 1-0

June 12, 2006 - The Connecticut Brakettes continued the strong start to their professional era, by edging the Chinese Taipei Olympic Team 1-0 Monday night in Stratford. The win brings the Brakettes to 4-0 in National Pro Fastpitch play, as Nikki Myers provided strong pitching for the second night in a row. Myers went the distance, allowing just a bunt single and a walk while striking out seven. Myers and Taipei pitcher Chueh Ming Hui engaged in a pitching duel, with Hui allowing just two hits through the first six innings.

Brakettes rookie Aimee Minor, playing in her first professional game, led off the home seventh with a double down the left field line. Julie Brooks, a .306 batter last year for the Stratford Brakettes, came up to bat with the runner in scoring position. A line drive hitter, Brooks was still searching for her first hit of the season. On a 2-2 pitch, Brooks lined a double down the right field line, scoring Minor from second for the winning run. "You just always have the feeling that one of us is going to get it done in the end," said Brooks. "Thankfully, I had a chance to do just that, and I was able to help the team out."

Myers now stands at 2-0 on the year, allowing just one unearned run in fourteen innings pitched. Hui is now 0-1 during Chinese Taipei's North American tour, as Taipei dropped to 0-3 overall. The teams will wrap up their four-game series Tuesday night at 7:05 at Frank DeLuca Hall of Fame Field in Stratford.
