CONNECTICUT BRAKETTES TO FACE NEW ENGLAND RIPTIDE FOR NATIONAL PRO FASTPITCH TITLE MONDAY NIGHT
August 27, 2006 - Rain forced the postponement of Sunday nights National Pro Fastpitch championship game at Frank DeLuca Hall of Fame Field. The Connecticut Brakettes and New England Riptide will try again Monday night at 6:30 p.m. at DeLuca Field. Gates to the field will open at 4:30 p.m. and there are plenty of tickets available. The Brakettes, who finished second during the regular season, defeated the 2005 champion Akron Racers 1-0 in eight innings. Sarah Pauly (16-5), who was named the leagues outstanding pitcher Saturday, picked up the win with a two-hit, 14-strikeout effort. Germaine Fairchilds RBI single drove in Kellie Wilkerson from second base with the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning. New England, which finished fourth, downed the regular-season champion Chicago Bandits 1-0 in nine innings as they scored the winning run via a throwing error. Lindsay Angus, the leagues player of the year recipient, scored the run for New England. |
