The Raybestos Cardinals were a Men's ASA Major Fastpitch team, playing its home games at Raybestos Memorial Field, Stratford CT.
The 1947 Stratford (Tilo) Roofers won the North Atlantic Regionals, which qualified them for the World Tournament (Nationals) in Cleveland. Bill Simpson of Raybestos helped get the team home from Cleveland after their bus broke down, and the next year Raybestos began sponsorship of the newly formed Cardinals (which included several former Roofers). Sponsorship was dropped for 1974-75, but resumed for the 1976-79 seasons. The Raybestos Cardinals were the World (National) champions in 1955, '58, '69, '70, '72 and '76. The Raybestos Hawks were the Cardinals farm team.
From 1980-84 the Cardinals were sponsored by Melrose, Massachusetts businessman George Franklin. By winning the national championship in 1983, the Franklin Cardinals earned the honor of representing the USA in the 1984 6th Men's World Championship in Midland, Michigan, winning the bronze.
