Saturday Night
Havoc Capitalize on Opportunities in 5-4 Victory Over Brakettes

July 9 - by Ilan Woll - After a day celebrating the 70th anniversary of Brakettes softball, including a luncheon, alumnae game, and impromptu Home Run Derby between slugging alums Steffi Call and Sheila Cornell Douty, Patti Sciglimpaglia took the circle to face the NYC Havoc's Siera Sheehan.

After both teams were retired in the first, Liz Strein-Dicicco reached on a throwing error.  Danielle Basciano then pushed a single passed a drawn in infield for a single.  Following two ground balls, walks to Melanie Pellagrino and Siera Sheehan forced in a run.  In the third, Brenna Martini smashed a home run to deep centerfield to double the lead.

The Brakettes stormed back in the forth as Tatum Buckley drilled a riseball over the leftfield fence to get on the board for her sixth homer of the year.  Amber Radomski then doubled to the fence in center and scored on an RBI single from Sarah Bencivenga off reliever Alyson Chiaramonte.  Following a walk to Whitley, Mary Sciglimpaglia again singled to load the bases.  A fielding miscue put Val Suto on and scored a run and then a walk to Britt Lampert brought in the fourth run to put Stratford up 4-2.

Nina Wojtkiewicz led off the fifth with a double to center.  Martini was then intentionally walked.  However, two additional walks to Linsey DeDomenico and Strein-Dicicco along with a fielding error gave the Havoc a 5-4 lead.

After leaving runners of third base in both the 5th and 6th innings, Denise Denis was on 2nd with two out in the seventh when a hard ground ball was well-played off the ricochet by Gina Geron to end the game.  The Brakettes stranded 11 runners during the game.

Alyson Chiaramonte earned her first official victory against the Brakettes, along with an exhibition win with the Bridgeport Bluefish in the first Battle of the Sexes in 2014.  Tatum Buckley and Mary Sciglimpaglia both had two-hit games.  Tatum Buckley, along with her home run, had five strikeouts in relief.

Following lightning and forecasts of rain, game 2 was called due to weather.

The Brakettes complete alumnae weekend Sunday with a single game at 11am against the Havoc.  Following that will be a road trip to Illinois playing the Lady Hearts July 13, the Lady Rage the 14th, the Pekin Lettes on the 15th, and Pekin Invitational on July 16 and 17.  All games will be broadcast on Brakettes.com
