Brakettes Celebrate Game Number 4200 with First WMS Bracket Win v. Team Connecticut 8-0
August 6 - by Ilan Woll - With the Brakettes having recently celebrated Denise Denis's 700th hit and win number 3,800, their 4,200th game over 70 seasons of softball came during the WMS tournament, in the first pool play game against Team Connecticut.
Following morning Pool Play games where the Dutchess Debs continued to showcase their talents, defeating the NYC Havoc 2-1, and the St. Louis Saints victorious against the CT Seahawks 4-2, bracket play games began. The Brakettes game was sandwiched between the Debs upsetting the Lyons Spirit 2-1 and the CT Seahawks dominating the NYC Havoc thanks to Katie Koshes' 14 strikeouts.
For the Brakettes, Megan Good took the circle facing Danbury High School's Melissa Jakubowski.
Following a quick inning for Team Connecticut, the Brakettes struck in the first. Val Suto doubled to left field, and, following a walk to Britt Lampert, a two out rally commenced. Tatum Buckley drove a single to center field to score one, and two additional singles by Patti Sciglimpaglia and Hannah Cooper scored the other two runners for the three run advantage.
Team Connecticut had an opportunity in the fourth as Gabby Laccona singled with an infield hit. Kaira Ramon then singled to left field resulting in two on and no out, but a fielder's choice and two strikeouts by Megan Good ended the rally.
In the fifth, following singles by Suto and Lampert, Denise Denis drilled a pitch over the centerfield fence for her ninth home run of the season. Following a walk to Sarah Bencivenga, Buckley then doubled to the fence for an RBI.
Stratford finished the game off in the sixth as, following a single to center from Jordan Whitley, Megan Good blooped a double to left. Amber Radomski then hit a fly ball to right field, which was enough to score Jordan Whitley for the final score in the 8-0 run-rule victory.
Megan Good (7-0), dominated the game, allowing just three hits and striking out ten batters in the shutout victory. The offensive standout was Denise Denis who went two for three with a home run and three RBIs. Val Suto, Tatum Buckley, and Patti Sciglimpaglia each had two hits as well.
