John Stratton
(Field Manager)

John Stratton is the field manager for the Brakettes. Now in his 20th year with the team, Stratton did an outstanding job during a major rebuilding season last year, leading the Brakettes to a 30-8-1 record and 7th place finish in the National ASA Championship. Twice before last year, Stratton bad been involved in managerial roles with the Brakettes.

During the 1976 season, Stratton took over as "interim" manager when Ralph Raymond suffered a heart attack and he led an entirely new team to the National Championship. Stratton and Andy VanEtten were co-managers in 1995 and they directed the ball club to a 57-3 season and third place tournament finish in Decatur, IL.

A graduate of Stratford High School and the University of Bridgeport, Stratton has been a physical education instructor in the New Canaan, CT, School System for nearly 35 years. Director of the S.O.S. Clinic (Stratton on Softball), John is regarded as one of the top pitching clinicians in the game today. He has been inducted into both the Connecticut ASA and Collegiate Halls of Fame, while his wife Micki was the first Brakettes player inducted into the National ASA Hall of Fame in Oklahoma City.

John and Micki are the parents of one son, John, Jr., who was an All-America baseball player at Jacksonville State and a former minor league catcher for Lubbock, TX, in the Texas/Louisiana League.

 

Bob Baird
(General Manager)

Bob Baird begins his 10th year as general manager of the Brakettes. He is the director of athletics and sports communications at the University of Bridgeport, where he oversees a 10-sport NCAA Division II program and the school's Wheeler Recreation Center.

A graduate of Stratford High School and the University of Bridgeport, with a bachelor's and master's in education, Baird was a sports writer and editor for 20 years and he covered the Brakettes in 15 National ASA tournaments. He has coached women's softball and basketball at the collegiate level, compiling a 105-30 record at Housatonic CC, where the Lady Hawks won three State and one New England Championship.

His basketball teams had a 98-17 record with three State titles and as many NJCAA Region 21 tournament berths. During his two-year tenure as assistant coach at Sacred Heart University, the Lady Pioneers finished third and fourth in the NCAA Division II World Series. During a four-year career at St. Joseph High School, the Cadets compiled a 76-25 record with three league titles.

A Stratford native, Bob and his wife Joy have five children.
