Mouse Sisters Lead Brakettes Over Chaos

July 1, 2010 - The Stratford Brakettes won their only home game of the week on Thursday night, beating the XTreme Chaos 9-0, in a nine-inning contest at DeLuca Field. Lyndsay Mouse and Jess Mouse both had two-run singles in the first inning to put the Brakettes up early.

Rachele Fico improved to 10-0 on the season, as she struck out 16 batters in a one-hit shutout. She walked two, and did not allow a hit until the sixth inning with one out.

Stratford scored four runs in the first inning, all coming with two outs.

Ashley Waters earned a one-out walk and reached second base on a wild pitch. Denis Denis followed with a base on balls, giving the Brakettes runners at first and second. Jess Serio then grounded to Chaos third baseman Bridget Figmic, who fielded the ball and forced out Waters at third. Mandie Fishback also earned a walk, loading the bases with two outs.

Lyndsay Mouse delivered a hard-hit single up the middle to score Denis and Serio for a 2-0 lead. Amber Radomski picked up the Brakettes’ fourth walk in the first inning, again loading the bases.

It was then Jess Mouse’s turn with the bases juiced, and she laced a drive to right-center, scoring Fishback and Lyndsay Mouse to give Stratford a 4-0 edge.

Chaos starting pitcher Kate Alfiere settled in nicely after the four-run first inning, holding the Brakettes scoreless over the next three innings, while stranding five base runners.

Kate Bowen took over the pitching duties for the Chaos in the fifth inning, and kept Stratford off the scoreboard until the seventh frame.

Serio led off the seventh with a walk, but was forced out on a grounder by Christine DellaVecchia. The speedster then stole second base, and stayed put on an infield hit by Lyndsay Mouse. Radomski contributed a single to score DellaVecchia for a 5-0 margin, and Mouse and Radomski moved up to second and third on the late throw home.

Stratford scored their sixth run thanks to the speed of Lyndsay Mouse, who raced home on a comebacker to the mound by Lindsey Kay Bright.

The Brakettes scored three more runs with two outs in the eighth inning to extend their lead to 9-0.

Serio reached on an error after Waters and Denis had been retired, and was pushed to second on an infield single by DellaVecchia. Lyndsay Mouse came up and ripped a double to the left-center fence, scoring Serio and DellaVecchia. Radomski delivered another run-scoring single, bringing home Mouse to close out the scoring.

Fico retired the side in order in the top of the ninth, striking out the last two batters she faced. Only Allison Baker stood in the way of a no-hitter, as Baker lined a single up the middle in the sixth. Figmic drew two walks, and was the only other base runner for the Chaos.

Lyndsay Mouse went 3-for-5, with four RBI and three runs scored. Jess Mouse drove in two, as did Radomski.

The Brakettes will play the East Coast (NJ) Elite at 10:15 Saturday in Lyons, PA, in the Winners’ Bracket quarter-finals of the Topton Fourth of July Tournament. They will play a 1:45 game on Saturday afternoon, regardless of the morning result.
