Brakettes Advance in Winner's Bracket with 10-0 Win

July 30, 2010 - The Stratford Brakettes pounded out 11 hits en route to a run-rule shortened 10-0 victory over the CT Mirage Gold in the winner's bracket quarterfinals of the 2nd Annual Women's Major Softball National Championship. They will take on the defending champion NYC Havoc in the semifinals at 8:00 at Biondi Field in West Haven.

The Brakettes improved to 54-1 on the season as they continued to impress at the plate and in the circle.

Rachele Fico ran her record to 31-0 with six-strikeout, one-hit performance. The only base runner for the Mirage was Mo Gauthier, who led off the second inning with a single.

Ashley Waters started the offense in the first with a one-out walk. She came home to score on a double by Jess Serio to right field. The ball kicked away from the right fielder, allowing her to head to third.  Serio went on to score on a base hit by Mandie Fishback. The Brakettes added to their 2-0 lead in the second, when they plated another three runs.

Jess Mouse led off with a double and crossed home on a two-base hit by Amber Radomski for a 3-0 edge. Carly Normandin sent a triple to the fence in right to drive in Radomski for a 4-0 advantage, and scored on a single by Ashley Waters. The Brakettes sat on their 5-0 margin until the fifth.

The floodgates opened in the home fifth, as Denis led off with a triple. Serio followed with a walk to put runners at the corners, and was then run for by Sarah Calgreen. Kristyn Sandberg delivered a single to score Denis and send Calgreen to second, putting the Brakettes up 6-0.

Jess Mouse then came through with her second double of the game to score Calgreen for a 7-0 lead, and sent Sandberg to third in the process. Amber Radomski provided the necessary offense to end the game early, smacking a single to score Sanberg and Mouse. Normandin lined a ball through the shortstop’s wickets that went into the left-center gap, scoring Radomski from first base for a 10-0 margin.

Fico retired the side in the bottom of the fifth in order to close out the victory.

The 8:00 matchup between the Brakettes and the Havoc will be webcast at brakettes.com, as will all games from the 2nd Annual Women’s Major Softball National Championship.
