Patty Fernandes begins her 17th season with the Brakettes and the seventh straight as the teams third base coach.
A graduate of Illinois State University, Fernandes served as the head softball and volleyball coach at Southern Connecticut State University for 15 years. The highlight of her career came in 2000 when her softball team captured the New England Collegiate Conference championship and she was named the NECC Coach of the Year.
In addition to her coaching, Patty is recognized as one of the top womens collegiate basketball officials in the East, working most of the leading Division I conferences. Patty is a graduate of Stratford High School and she is the first female inducted into its Athletic Hall of Fame.
During her Brakettes playing days, Fernandes earned the nickname Jet for her outstanding quickness in the outfield and on the base paths. Possessing super speed and great instincts, she was one of the teams finest defensive players.
In her initial stint with the Raybestos Brakettes, from 1977-81, she was a member of the 1978 World Championship team. She rejoined the club as a player for the 1995-97 seasons before settling into her role as a coach. Overall, she played in 249 games, compiling a .257 career batting average.
