Welcome to the 2nd annual Women's Major Softball National Championship tournament!

Last year we geared our efforts to make this tournament something the players, coaches, and fans would truly enjoy and remember. We accomplished our goal with a 10-team event at Stratford's Frank DeLuca Hall of Fame Field. Despite the fact that we have changed venues this year, we expect the tournament to surpass last year!

We are playing the four-day tournament at the Frank Biondi Softball Field in the Fitzgerald Sports Complex on the campus of West Haven, CT, High School, which is a 12-mile ride from Stratford. We are indeed fortunate to have such an outstanding facility to showcase our event and we are grateful to the folks in West Haven who made this possible.

The Brakettes, who have called DeLuca Field home for 23 years, were denied the opportunity to host this tournament in Stratford this season because our contract with the Town of Stratford prevented us from hosting any tournament or special event that would conflict with the Stratford Softball Tournament, Inc. organization's scheduled events. SSTI is hosting the ASA Women's Major softball tournament later this summer and they didn't want us to be in competition with their ability to recruit participants.

Once the eight teams hit the magnificently groomed diamond Thursday, July 29, any thoughts of the venue will be forgotten. Last year's event surpassed its goal of making it “a blast from the past.” The majority of participants have become disenchanted with ASA-sponsored tournaments in recent years and the Women's Major Softball tournament was established to make it a more personalized event.

With only one tourney site in 2010 we had to limit our event to the first eight teams to commit. Four additional teams were disappointed that we didn't have room, but we do hope to expand to 12-16 clubs by 2011.

Headlining the tournament field will be the 2009 defending champion NYC Havoc, who fashioned an undefeated record in elimination play last year. The host Stratford Brakettes finished fourth in 2009. Sending the Brakettes into an early loser's bracket journey were the St. Louis Saints, who are back again. The remainder of the field includes the highly-talented New York Raiders and New York Freedom, the veteran-laden Lyons, PA, Spirit, and two youthful and energetic newcomers, the TC Tremors of Binghamton, NY, and the Connecticut Mirage Gold.

The eight teams are scheduled to play two games each in pool play Thursday, July 29, with Opening Night ceremonies to start at 5 p.m. that night with a parade of teams and umpires onto the Biondi diamond. There will be pomp and circumstance and fans in attendance, something that has been sorely lacking at other sites in recent years. Only winner's bracket games will be played Friday, July 30 with elimination games not scheduled until Saturday.

All teams are guaranteed three rooms per night for at least three nights at Comfort Suites in Stratford, tournament headquarters for the second year in a row.
