Position: SS/IF Bats: R Throws: R College: Connecticut Resides: Holden, MA Smooth, stylish, and steady is one way to describe Briana Marcelino on the softball diamond. It did not take her long to attract the attention of the Brakettes faithful. In the span of just 75 games the past three years, Briana has already moved into the career home run rankings with 24, good for 14th place. The Easton, CT, native, who moved to Holden, MA, last year, excelled during a 34-2 National Championship season last year when she batted .483 with six home runs and 38 RBI. Had there been no pandemic and the National Pro Fastpitch league cancelled its season for the second year, Briana would have been an NPF draft pick. A two-time WMS All-America, she won a pair of Micki Stratton MVP and Pat Dufficy Home Run Awards and one Allyson Rioux Defensive Player of the tournament honor. Prior to signing with UConn she led Joel Barlow High School to the CIAC Class L state title in 2017. After getting out of the box slow this spring, shortstop Marcelino caught fire to finish with a .320 batting average with seven home runs and 23 RBI, in addition to leading the Huskies with 18 stolen bases.
