Brandice Balschmiter is carving out quite a reputation as a pitcher, both at the University of Massachusetts and on the Stratford Brakettes. She finished the 2006 season with a 14-2 record and 0.76 ERA with 139 strikeouts in 110 innings. She also earned a victory in the ASA Nationals in Buffalo, which is not far from her hometown of Newark, NY. In her two years as the ace of the pitching staff at UMass, Brandice has fashioned a 61-19 record with 1.17 ERA and 565 strikeouts in 551 innings. This year she compiled a 29-10 record, 1.39 ERA and held opposing hitters to a paltry .189 average to earn Second Team All-America honors along with First Team Atlantic-10. She was the A-10 Pitcher of the Year for the second time and also the A-10 Tournament Most Outstanding Player. Balschmiter had 14 shutouts and hurled two no-hitters.
