Leslie Malerich rejoined the Stratford Brakettes for the 2005 season after spending the previous three years playing professionally in Italy as well as for the Italian National Team, highlighted by the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens where she earned the teams only victory. Malerich picked up right where she left off by compiling a 15-3 record with a 0.57 ERA. In 110 innings, she struck out 116 batters and she picked up three victories over NPF clubs. Although she was on the 2006 Connecticut Brakettes roster, she was unable to play as she spent the summer pitching for Italy as it tried to earn a berth in the 2008 Olympics. A graduate of Florida State University, Malerich had three no-hitters her rookie year with the Brakettes, including the opening game of the ASA National Championship in Phoenix, AZ, against the Bloomington, IL, Lady Hearts. In her senior year at FSU, Malerich pitched the Lady Seminoles to a berth in the College World Series and she recorded wins over UCLA and Nebraska. Twice named first team All-State at Merrillville, IN, High School, she was inducted into the Indiana High School Hall of Fame in 2005.
