Courtney Bures first season with the Stratford Brakettes was a short one as she spent most of last summer playing for the USA World University Team that won a gold medal in Taiwan. However, when she was on the diamond, her play was exceptional, both with the bat (.379) and in the field at shortstop. She made some outstanding fielding plays during the National Tournament in Buffalo, NY, last summer. A three-year starter at Mississippi State University, Bures recently concluded her junior season with a .354 batting average that featured 64 hits and 56 RBI. She hit .346 as a sophomore and .388 during her 2005 freshman campaign when she earned First Team All-America laurels. Bures hit 18 home runs that year. As a high school senior at Stonewall Jackson High in Haymarket, VA, she led the club to a 27-2 record and the Virginia Group AAA state championship. Bures batted .521 and drove in 27 runs. She also pitched that year, compiling an 11-1 record with a 0.71 ERA. Prior to playing for the Brakettes, Bures was a member of the Virginia Shamrocks ASA Gold National Champions in 2005.
