Katie Burkhart recently concluded an outstanding junior season at Arizona State University where she led the Sun Devils to a berth in the College World Series. Selected to the Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-American First Team, Burkhart compiled a 35-13 record with a 1.11 ERA while pitching in the toughest conference in the United States. Her 517 strikeouts set a new single-season PAC-10 record. She has 1,154 career Ks, good for 17th all-time, heading into her senior year. Working 323 innings, Burkhart allowed only 51 walks for a 10-1 strikeout/walk ratio. The only left-handed pitcher on the Brakettes pitching staff, Burkhart also had a tryout for Team USA. As an ASU sophomore, Burkhart set a new team record with her 420 strikeouts while she tallied 30 wins an a 1.15 ERA while leading the team to a berth in the CWS in Oklahoma City. In 2005, Burkhart was honorable mention Pac-10 with a 12-14 record, 1.52 ERA and 220 strikeouts. A 2004 graduate of San Luis Obispo High School, she earned four softball letters and was all-state her senior year. She compiled a 0.21 ERA with 358 strikeouts in 169 innings her senior season.
